I’m gonna click!

When was the last time you saw an online display ad you’d click on? Or, better put, when was the last time you clicked on an online display ad? I seriously never had unless I did once in 1994 or something. But I saw this ad and was intrigued enough, and entertained, that I’d click.

I had to write this post first, so I haven’t yet. It’s my next order of business. Good job Very Short List, whoever you are and whatever you’re selling!

(i.e., Why try to game the system when you can do just plain good work?!)

From Wasilla with…a lesson

The power of social media branding and marketing is expressed really well in this post at ClickZ:

Hours after Palin was named as [MCain's] running mate, James posted a photo of Wasilla City Hall on his Facebook profile page. The photo was originally posted by djcn0te on photo-sharing site Flickr.com in 2005. Since Palin ascended into national politics, so too has this photo. It’s now accompanied by wisecracks (or insightful observations, depending on your political persuasion). Wrote clockwerks: “so McCain’s VP pick was mayor of a laundromat?” And this from emasscouple: “She really is for reducing the size of government, eh?”

One blogger asked…

Brazen, Boisterous, Breathtaking

See? I got your attention with some words which a search engine wouldn’t know where to start with. Whether it’s on the light side (i.e., digestible by non-professional marketers/SEOs) at How Design, or more intense at Sphinn, I’m seeing a lot of good discussion out there about the importance of writing for people rather than [just] search engines. There are a million angles on why/how/when/where to make your writing work best, but the underlying point is tremendously important: people need to read — and be moved by — what you write for it to matter at all. So, brief and compelling.

Pretty neat! Just type in http://wap.aol.com/truveo into your mobile-browser and there you go. Have fun!

Thanks to Search Engine Land for the info.

What’s really happening at Google

Googlicious

A lot of human energy is spent trying to figure out what Google is doing at any given time, so as to be in synch with SEO efforts. I don’t think you’ll ever be able to achieve true insight into the operations over there until you acquaint yourself with the cuisine. Sure, the most recent photo is from June 2007, but this year-and-a-half’s record of Google cafe dishes (free to employees) gets you on the vibe.

The blog attracted 339,806 views, and many comments including a few from some very wet blankets:

Online Vote Renders November Election Unnecessary

Ever since I took my first online poll, I’ve wondered why I had to go through the rigmarole of casting my vote in person every November.  Instead of standing in line chatting with neighbors I generally try to avoid, I could log on, click a box and get on with my life.  Even if voting in person eats up valuable hours I could be using to make my weekly fantasy football picks, it’s still a necessary part of living in a democracy.  Since the Federal Election Commission won’t be allowing people to vote online any time soon (citizens are generally…
