My work life straddles design and marketing, and corporate vs. small-business approaches to each. And I’m seeing a lot of variation in how people understand and advocate for SEO strategies.
I see larger businesses with a team of marketing specialists are leaning past plain-old keyword optimization. I personally suspect that they were led in this direction by their lust for Flash and dynamic page technologies that cloak content and disorient spiders. And now that bots can better read Flash, along comes Silverlight; the jury is out on the future of rich-media page readability.
So, to compensate for having hard-to-search pages, and relying…

A lot of human energy is spent trying to figure out what Google is doing at any given time, so as to be in synch with SEO efforts. I don’t think you’ll ever be able to achieve true insight into the operations over there until you acquaint yourself with the cuisine. Sure, the most recent photo is from June 2007, but this year-and-a-half’s record of Google cafe dishes (free to employees) gets you on the vibe.
The blog attracted 339,806 views, and many comments including a few from some very wet blankets:

Everyone pays lip service to winners. From competitive athletics to the cutthroat corporations of the Fortune 500 to high school music class where “first chair” is considered the laudable throne of achievement, the winner’s circle represents the pinnacle of achievement. My skin crawls at the idea of widespread blog abuse by SEO experts; enough people do this and blogs will become so suspect that people won’t bother reading any for fear of being manipulated, bored, or…
Goofing off happens. Whether it’s an overworked accounting department taking time off to participate in a “Finer Things Club” like the hilarious employees on The Office or a marketing meeting devolving into all-out Nerf gun warfare or taking a smoke break to blow off a little steam - everybody does it. It’s healthy! Well, except the smoking. Like physical exercise, mental strain from focusing for long periods of time takes a toll on the human brain and, without a break, mistakes happen. But in an age where productivity is king, where cutthroat competition drives companies to seek time-saving innovations from…
